Publication of ISO 45001 set for 15th March 2018
The International Standards Organisation - ISO - has selected 15 March as the publication date for the ISO 45001 Health and Safety Management Standard
The International Standards Organisation (ISO) has selected 15 March as the publication date for the ISO 45001 health and safety management, after national standards bodies last week voted to endorse the third and final version of the text.
When the third round of balloting was counted on 26 January, the revisions to the document introduced following the second round of balloting - between May 2017 and July - were approved by 62 votes, with four votes against and nine abstentions.
In the UK, the publication date will coincide with the British Standards Institution (BSI) also running a conference on the new standard.
The BSI is also aiming to publish BS45002 - the approved guidance to the standard - around the same time. ISO 45001 will replace the existing OHSAS 18001, which will be withdrawn after its publication.
The publication of ISO 45001 comes around four years after the drafting process began – and around two years longer than it typically takes to draw up a new management standard, according to Chris Ward, a health and safety consultant and member of H/S1, the UK committee of the BSI.
