At least 40 construction workers were injured while 14 others are feared to be trapped under the rubble after a three story building under construction in Kapsabet, Nandi County collapsed on Thursday morning.
Rescuers from the Kenya Red Cross and the County government arrived at the site within 30 minutes of the collapse and worked with residents to search for survivors from the rubble. The rescuers had to brave heavy rains in a bid to reach those trapped under the rubble. The injured were rushed to the Kapsabet Referral Hospital.
The cause of the collapse is yet to be established with reports that construction of the building said to be a private hospital had earlier been suspended by the County Inspectorate for failure to comply with building standards.
