The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) observed this year's safety week themed “Safety starts with me, Nitawajibika.” between Monday, 28th May and Thursday, 31st May.

Addressing staff and port users at the KPA headquarters during the flagging off of the KPA safety week on Monday, the MD Catherine Mturi-Wairi asked them to take advantage of the Authority’s health awareness initiatives at strategic work places for medical checkups to improve on their health and that of their families.

The MD also urged employees to be responsible for their own safety and that of their colleagues while at the workplace. "A healthy workforce is the pillar of high productivity,” said Wairi.

General Manager Operations and Harbour Master Captain William Ruto was also present during the flagging off session.

Various activities were planned for the week at various workplaces aimed at creating safety awareness and sensitisation.

Departments through their Departmental Safety Committees were expected to make presentations on their interpretations of the theme in their day-to-day activities. Insurance and Commercial Departments also gave brief presentations.
